Furuno - Indian Coast Guard Fishing Race: Lights, Camera, RACE!

Earlier this month, on the 7th of Feb, 2012, Moloobhoys had the pleasure of co-hosting the “FURUNO-INDIAN COAST GUARD Fishing Race of 2012” in Chennai along with the Indian Coast Guard. The Honourable Chief Guest was the Minister of Fisheries, Chennai who felicitated all the winners with 1st and 2nd prizes sponsored by FURUNO, Japan.

The event was well attended by the members of the Coast Guard, members of the press (local and national TV and Radio stations), fishermen and their families, and crowds of locals who had come to watch and cheer on the their fellow fishermen-contestants. Moloobhoys strongly supports the Indian Coast Guard in all such noble, outreach programs.

There were two main races that took place – a Catamaran Race and a Row Boat Race, which had a total of 15 participants each. Amidst a flurry of activity, IG himself escorted the Honourable Chief Guest to the event, and watched all the races from an elaborate main-stage designed to look like a ship. There was festive music, snacks and excited cheer as Radio Mirchi covered the event LIVE along with the local news channels of Chennai. The event was also covered by The Hindu on the 23rd of January, 2012 and again one day later – bringing the spot light on these skilled fishermen who participated in the Race.

We sincerely look forward to more such events in future, co-hosted by Furuno and the Indian Coast Guard and sponsored by: A. S. Moloobhoy Pvt. Ltd. !
